Discrimination Against Women

Women have always been subjugated to discrimination. Whether it is because of their weakness compared to men in terms of physical strength or their means of reproduction, the answer as to why they are considered the minority is still unknown. But it was not until 1920 when women gained the right to vote. This was not an easy right to fight for. In fact, author William Marbury gives in great detail how hard it is to make a new law. He uses Massachusetts as an example and states that such a law "deprive[d] the people of Massachusetts, perhaps forever, of the power to regulate this matter for themselves, and to change the law" (Marbury 224). Massachusetts at the time opposed such a law and arguably felt that such a matter was out of their hands. This exemplifies how although voting for women was now legal, it was still opposed and that is why some still think lowly of it. However, voting rights were the start of all rights for women and if voting rights are to be opposed then all rights for women are in danger as well.
